Charles Drewes Memorial Scholarship
The Charles Drewes Memorial Scholarship is an annual scholarship for undergraduate students enrolled in the Biology Program at Iowa State University who plan to pursue graduate study and/or a career focusing on the biology of non-human animals (zoology).
Award
- $1,000 for a Fall/Spring academic year
Scholarship Eligibility
- Open to currently enrolled students only
- 3.0 or higher GPA at Iowa State University
- Undergraduate student in Biology Program with at least 60 undergraduate credits (completed or in progress)
- Plans to pursue graduate study and/or a career focused on non-human animal biology or zoology

College-level Scholarships
In addition to scholarships open to undergraduates in the Biology Program, there are also scholarships available from the two colleges that administer our program. Scholarships are available for new incoming freshman and transfer students, as well as currently enrolled or continuing students:
Darlene and Melvin Larsen Scholarship
The Darlene and Melvin Larsen Scholarship is open to undergraduate students enrolled in the Biology Program, Genetics Program, or Bioinformatics and Computational Biology Program at Iowa State University. Three awards are given each year, and students may renew this scholarship provided they continue to meet the criteria. Preference is given to students with an interest in genetics, developmental biology, or cell biology.
Award
- $500 for each of the Fall and Spring semesters ($1,000 combined); students must have both semesters remaining at Iowa State in order to receive the full $1,000 award
Scholarship Eligibility
- File a FAFSA by December 1st
- 3.0 or higher GPA at Iowa State University and good academic standing
- Attending Iowa State University full time
- Undergraduate student majoring in Biology, Genetics, or Bioinformatics and Computational Biology
- Preference is given to students who demonstrate leadership skills, financial need, and interest in genetics, developmental biology, or cell biology

Diane Marie Heimbuch Scholarship
The Diane Marie Heimbuch Scholarship is open to sophomore undergraduate students enrolled in the Biology Program, Genetics Program, or Bioinformatics and Computational Biology Program at Iowa State University. Two awards are given each year, and students may renew this scholarship provided they continue to meet the criteria. A student may not receive the award for more than three years. Preference is given to students with an interest in zoology or animal biology.
Award
- $500 for each of the Fall and Spring semesters ($1,000 combined); students must have both semesters remaining at Iowa State in order to receive the full $1,000 award

- 3.0 or higher GPA at Iowa State University and good academic standing
- Attending Iowa State University full time
- Sophomore or above undergraduate student majoring in Biology, Genetics, or Bioinformatics and Computational Biology
- Resident of the State of Iowa
- Preference is given to students interested in animal biology or zoology

Dr. David W. Staniforth Legacy Scholarship
The Dr. David W. Staniforth Legacy Scholarship is an annual scholarship for undergraduate students enrolled in the Biology or Genetics programs at Iowa State University who have demonstrated an interest in plant sciences or botany.
Award
- $1,000 for a Fall/Spring academic year
Scholarship Eligibility
- File a FAFSA by December 1st prior to the award year and demonstrate financial need
- Open to currently enrolled students only
- 3.0 or higher GPA at Iowa State University
- Minimum of three semesters of college coursework completed
- Undergraduate student in Biology Program or Genetics Program
- Demonstrated interest in plant sciences or botany

Irving W. and Natalie A. Knobloch Scholarship
The Irving W. and Natalie A. Knobloch Scholarship is an annual scholarship for undergraduate students enrolled in a major administered by the Ecology, Evolution, and Organismal Biology Department at Iowa State University (i.e., Biology, Environmental Science, Genetics) with a demonstrated interest in plant sciences or botany.
Award
- $1,000 for a Fall/Spring academic year

Mary Kate Phillips Scholarship in Plant Sciences
The Mary Kate Phillips Scholarship is an annual scholarship for undergraduate students enrolled in majors administered by the department of Ecology, Evolution, and Organismal Biology (EEOB) at Iowa State University (i.e., Biology, Environmental Science, Genetics) with a demonstrated interest in plant sciences or botany.

- $1,000 for a Fall/Spring academic year

- File a FAFSA by December 1st prior to the award year and demonstrate financial need
- Open to currently enrolled students only
- 3.0 or higher GPA at Iowa State University

The Department of Ecology, Evolution, and Organismal Biology has recently received a generous gift that enables the Biology Program and Genetics Program to offer a new scholarship. The donors created this fund to honor the legacy and profession of Dr. Staniforth (1919-1984) who was a pioneer in the field of weed science. See the Dr. David W. Sophomore Success Scholarship
The Sophomore Success Scholarship is an annual scholarship for sophomore students enrolled in the Biology Program at Iowa State University. Applicants should demonstrate active engagement in their program of study through university-level participation in experiences relating to career goals (e.g., research jobs, student organizations, learning communities).

- $1,000 for a Fall/Spring academic year
Scholarship Eligibility
- Open to currently enrolled students only
