Hi! My name is Emily and I'm a junior originally from Bennington, Nebraska. I would say I am focusing my biology studies in molecular biology as well as animal biology as I am pursuing a minor in Animal Science. Currently, I am planning to apply to DVM/PhD dual degree programs so that I may practice in academic veterinary medicine one day. Fall of 2021 will be my first year as a BEST peer mentor and I couldn't be more excited! I wanted to be a peer mentor because I have really enjoyed mentoring underclassmen in other organizations at Iowa State University, but am particularly excited about being able to share my love of biology with others. I also had a great experience in Biology 110 due to my amazing mentors and want to help other students have the same outcome. I am involved in the Honors Program as a former First-Year Honors Program Leader and current Honors Ambassador as well as being actively involved with research in Dr. Joshua Selsby's lab. Some other ways I stay involved are through Best Buddies, Run Club, Alternative Breaks, the Academic Success Center as a tutor, and Biology 313L as an undergraduate TA.

New students can ask me about how to get advanced biology credit for research and internships. During the summer of 2020 I interned with Nebraska Wildlife Rehabilitation and was able to receive credit for my time. I also receive credit for the research projects I complete during the school year. You can also ask me about how to get involved in Honors, ways to serve the Ames community, and how it is possible to juggle part time jobs as a full time student!
