Biology alum Dr. Dan Fulton to be honored with Citation of Merit Award from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences

Dr. Dan. Fulton, infectious disease physician at McFarland Clinic and Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, will receive the Citation of Merit Award from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at its alumni awards ceremony on Thursday, Nov. 3. The award is given to LAS alumni who have demonstrated outstanding achievement and received national or international recognition.

Fulton received a bachelor’s degree in biology from Iowa State in 2004 before earning his medical degrees. Specialty care for the sickest patients, infection prevention efforts, and antibiotic stewardship have been the focus of Fulton’s career.

Fulton has been a vital leader in the Ames community’s COVID-19 pandemic response, including staff and patient protection, treatment protocols, care of COVID-19 patients, community vaccination efforts, and educational programming with community partners.

Fulton has earned numerous awards for his work and dedication in the field of infectious disease, including Mary Greeley Medical Center’s Innovation and Excellence Award, McFarland Clinic’s Founder’s Award, University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinic’s Internal Medicine Fellow of the Year, and the Gold Humanism in Medicine Award.
