Kate Henderson (biology, 1997) honored with Citation of Merit Award from Iowa State University’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
[AMES, IOWA, October 1, 2021]—Kate Henderson, an accomplished leader and executive in the health care industry, will receive the Citation of Merit Award from Iowa State University’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at a ceremony on Friday, October 22, 2021 in Ames, Iowa. The award recognizes distinguished alumni in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences who have demonstrated outstanding achievement and received national or international recognition.
After earning her master’s degree in hospital administration from the University of Iowa, Henderson secured a prestigious, one-year administrative fellowship with the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. During her 20-year career, Henderson served in numerous leadership roles for University of Iowa Health Care and the University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics, before joining Ascension Seton, part of the largest nonprofit health care system in the United States.
Henderson currently serves as president of Ascension Texas Regional Hospitals, overseeing four regional hospitals. She is responsible for the strategic growth of the hospital’s clinical programs and services as well as financial stewardship, talent management, quality and safety, community outreach, and philanthropic and community engagement. In this role, Henderson led the growth of new locations and programs across multiple service lines and markets, including neurosciences, cardiovascular, musculoskeletal, women’s health, urologic care and robotically-led minimally invasive general surgery.
Passionate about giving back to her profession and to the community, Henderson volunteers with the Austin Metro YMCA Board, the Health Alliance for Austin Musicians Board, the American Heart Association, Communities in Schools and the Ceresa mentorship program.
Henderson earned her bachelor’s degree in biology from Iowa State in 1997. She continues to serve Iowa State as a member of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Dean’s Advisory Council. Most recently, she was named virtual keynote speaker for Iowa State’s Student 2021 Pre-Health Conference.
