Student microscopes used in Biology

Binocular Compound Microscope.
Things you should know about your microscope:

Name the parts of the binocular compound microscope.

What are the magnification abilities of the objectives on this scope?

What magnification ability do you have on the ocular lens?

What could you do to adjust the contrast on your scope?

When should you use the course adjustment?

When should you not use the course adjustment?

If you turn the light source on your scope and there is no light, what should you check?

Does your scope have an ocular micrometer?

How do you use an ocular micormeter to make measurements?

In one of the oculars on your microscope, is an ocular micrometer. The scale on the micrometer was calibrated using a stage micrometer to indicate the length of each ocular unit at a particular microscope magnification.

The number of ocular units is multiplied by the calibration to determine the exact length of a cell measured. If this Elodea cell was being viewed at 20X and the ocular calibration was 4 um/ocular unit, how long is this cell?

Stereoscopic Dissecting Microscope

Name the parts of the stereomicroscope?

Where would you adjust the magnification?

How do you focus this scope?

What kind of specimens are best viewed using this scope?

How would you measure a specimen being viewed on this scope?
